Meet Gabriel, Software Engineer at Hydryx

Gabriel Ramirez has been leading software at Hydryx since June

In that time, he's built an internal chatbot that lets the team query our database in plain language, helped redesign our data ingress pipeline, and honestly, that's just scratching the surface of his impact. Consider this the introduction he should've gotten months ago. 🙌

His background is engineering leadership and full-stack engineering, with a focus on system scalability. Most recently, he was an Engineering Manager on GitHub's Notifications team, and he came to Hydryx wanting to get back to building software directly instead of managing a team.

And it shows. Haadi, who works with him daily, said:

“We call him Archangel Gabriel, because he always comes to the rescue.”

Exactly what you need when your software already runs live sites in the Netherlands, Finland and the UK, with landfill engineers everywhere else next on the list.

Academically, Gabriel studied computational social science and Arabic, and kept both up as hobbies. The computational social science side is still very much active: he's been mapping GitHub's own org chart as a social network, to see what it reveals about how engineering teams actually function. There's a case study and a podcast episode on it,

Outside of work: Gabriel roasts his own coffee ☕, makes pottery, and moved to Amsterdam almost four years ago with his wife and daughter.

Welcome to Hydryx, Gabriel 🎉
