Hydryx is live at ROVA’s Bovenveld landfill in Rheezerveen

Bovenveld is still an active landfill today. Its northern cells, though, stopped taking waste in the 1990s. Today it carries a 6 MW solar park, 17,000 panels with sheep grazing underneath. Below those panels, the landfill is still producing gas, and ROVA already captures it and turns it into electricity. One closed section, two sources of clean power.

Dick, Derk and Suus went well by well under the panels: sensor mounted, gas quality checked, data flowing. Roughly 20 minutes per well, and the site was live by early afternoon. From now on, gas quality across Bovenveld is sampled every 15 minutes and ROVA sees it live.

Then comes the part that makes this site different. We are connecting our system to ROVA’s generator and gas analyser, so that extraction can follow the electricity market: pull harder when the 15-minute power price is high, ease off when it is low. Bovenveld is going to be the first landfill where we optimise gas extraction on energy prices. Same gas, more value per cubic metre.
